Construction Update

The redevelopment of Memorial Stadium is a legacy project to better serve the needs of future generations of SPS students and maximize its use for the community in new and different ways.

With the construction phase underway now through 2027 – led by construction partner Sellen Construction – we will provide regular project updates via this website, campus signage, digital alerts, and monthly project email updates available upon request at MemorialStadium@sellen.com. In addition, Seattle Center will continue to coordinate updates with partner/resident organizations and event partners, and will post construction alerts and signage on campus.

Construction Schedule

  • Construction work hours have been updated to 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends (if necessary) – with no construction on most holidays – in accordance with site logistics and permit approvals. This activity will result in noise from vacuum excavator trucks, saw cutting, core hole drilling, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment.

Upcoming Construction Activity & Neighborhood Impact Updates

  • Demolition to the north grandstand is underway through October.
  • Onsite concrete recycling is underway through Dec. 9.

  • Work to replace a Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) sewer main which runs beneath the stadium is currently underway through October.
  • Republican Street is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic through Nov. 21. During this time deliveries to the Exhibition Hall, McCaw Hall, and Opera loading docks need to reroute to 4th Ave. North & Mercer Street.
  • The north half of the SPS parking lot is closed during construction hours for construction activities and deliveries.
  • As part of the construction of a new Memorial Stadium, a number of trees within the construction zone have been removed. This work is a necessary and carefully planned part of the project and approved through the City’s permitting and environmental processes. Learn more about tree sustainability including tree preservation, tree replanting, tree offsets, and the new tree canopy as part of the new landscape design.
